SUMMARY:Picket for ICE Out of Lynn
DESCRIPTION:Courtesy of North Shore Labor Council: The NSLC and our partners are calling for a picket in front of Lynn District Court this next Thursday (8/27) to protest the inability of our city’s institutions to protect residents from the threat of mass deportations. There are multiple cases where ICE agents are assisted by court leadership in carrying out operations\, such as allowing agents into the staff-only parking garage to make arrests. Additionally\, LPD unfairly assists ICE with their “peaceful transfers” policy which allows ICE agents to enter the police station and take people from custody for deportation without ever being convicted of a crime. \n\nThese policies of collaboration with ICE are failures of our public institutions. We call on local leaders to prioritize the safety of all residents and to end all collaboration ICE and Lynn Courts / Police.

SUMMARY:Overdose Memorial
DESCRIPTION:From Healthy Streets Outreach Program: We know there are so many amazing events during August that people attend to remember those we have lost to substance related death. If you are in the community and would like to attend our small memorial\, we would love to have you. We will be hosting the event outside of our building which is a gathering place for individuals who have lost loved ones to substance related death and many people who have saved 100s of lives by reversing overdoses and preventing death.\n\nHealthy Streets in Lynn\, MA hosted one of the first overdose vigils in Massachusetts in 2005. This event sparked statewide memorials to honor people we have lost. Individuals gathering together to provide support\, to listen and to come out of the shadows. Back then\, saying you lost someone to overdose was heavily stigmatized. People were shamed. We saw a need all those years ago to bring our people out\, offer a safe and loving space to grieve\, love and remember. This tradition blossomed into hundreds of safe spaces across Massachusetts for people experiencing loss.\n\nWe will be building a living memorial with flowers\, listening to music\, and lighting candles. We will do the reading of the names and sit in community together. Please feel free to share the flyer with your friends\, family and patients/clients. Feel free to bring flowers for the memorial if you choose.\n\nCandles will be provided.\n\nFor the people\, by the people\, with the people. All the love.
