After a fatal incident involving her employer\, Binh flees with his younger brother Tam. En route to America\, a storm diverts their boat to Malaysia\, where they meet Ling\, a prostitute who helps them escape. Tam dies during the harsh voyage. In New York\, Binh works while Ling moves on. Learning he qualifies for citizenship\, Binh travels to Texas to find his blind father.
