SUMMARY:Open House | Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project
DESCRIPTION:From the MBTA: The MBTA\, City of Lynn\, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) are working to make the Lynnway safer\, more accessible\, and more connected. \nWe invite you to attend one of our events this spring to learn about the Lynnway draft concept design and provide your feedback. You will learn about how the project will make the road safer\, improve transit service\, modernize traffic signals\, and better serve the corridor’s future development. We will also share details about street trees and how we’re coordinating with other projects. \nAll four open houses will have the exact same information – please choose the one that is most convenient for you. Can’t make it in person? You can join the virtual public meeting or provide feedback online (coming soon). \nDownload a PDF of fliers in multiple languages by clicking here\nLynn Community Open House (in person)\nThursday\, May 7\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nWelcome Center\, Lynn Public Schools\n195 Market Street\, Lynn\, MA 01901 \nSwampscott Community Open House (in person)\nWednesday\, May 13\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nSwampscott Senior Center\n200R Essex Street\, Rear\, Swampscott\, MA 01907 \nVirtual Public Meeting\nThursday\, May 14\, 2026\, 6:00 – 7:30 PM\nVirtual Zoom Meeting: Register Here \nNahant Community Open House (in person)\nTuesday\, May 19\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nNahant Town Hall\n334 Nahant Road\, Nahant\, MA 01908 \nMarblehead Community Open House (in person)\nWednesday\, May 20\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nMarblehead Senior Center\n10 Humphrey Street\, Marblehead\, MA 01945 \nAbout the Project\nThe Lynnway is a major roadway\, part of Route 1A\, and is owned and operated by DCR. The project area extends north from the General Edwards Bridge at the Revere city line to just north of Market Street and serves as a significant north-south connection to and within the city. For decades\, the Lynnway’s design has prioritized the movement of motor vehicles\, resulting in a difficult and intimidating area for pedestrians\, cyclists\, and bus riders to navigate\, and serving as a barrier to the waterfront. \nThe Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project will include safety and reliability improvements for all modes of transportation – from those who drive\, walk\, and bike to those who take public transportation. As part of this project\, there will also be improved access both across and along the Lynnway\, making it safer for people to access places like the new Harbor Park. \nThe Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project builds upon several plans from the MBTA\, City of Lynn\, and Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Safe\, multimodal transportation improvements to the Lynnway are essential to supporting the City’s vision for the area to transform it as a gateway to the Lynn community. \nAccommodations\nThis meeting is accessible to people with disabilities and those with limited proficiency in English. Spanish interpretation will be available at the Lynn Open House and Virtual Public Meeting. Accessibility accommodations and language services will be provided free of charge\, upon request\, as available. SUMMARY:Public Meeting | General Edwards Bridge Replacement
DESCRIPTION:From the City of Lynn Planning Department / MassDOT: The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is hosting a Live Virtual Public Information Meeting on Wednesday\, April 29 at 7:00PM. \nAt this meeting\, the project team will provide an overview of the project and present the latest design updates. Following the presentation\, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments. \nHow will this affect you? \nThe General Edwards Drawbridge connects Lynn and Revere by carrying Route 1A over the Saugus River. MassDOT is currently planning the replacement for this 87-year-old structurally deficient drawbridge\, with a new fixed bridge that will be constructed just downstream and adjacent to the existing drawbridge. \nThe new bridge will be built as close to the existing bridge as feasible and will feature longer spans with fewer piers in the water\, improving navigation through the channel. The new fixed bridge will also provide greater vertical clearance above high tide and a wider navigation opening\, allowing most vessels to pass without interruption while eliminating bridge openings will improve reliability for motorists traveling along Route 1A. \nPlease click here to register for the virtual session. \n___________________________________ \nPara la traducción al español\, seleccione el idioma en la esquina inferior izquierda. \nសម្រាប់ការបកប្រែជាភាសាខ្មែរ សូមជ្រើសរើសភាសានៅជ្រុងខាងឆ្វេងខាងក្រោម។ \n___________________________________ \nTo ensure its meetings are accessible\, MassDOT reasonably provides: translation\, interpretation\, modifications\, accommodations\, alternative formats\, and auxiliary aids and services. SUMMARY:Virtual Public Hearing to Review Statewide K-12 School Finance Formula
DESCRIPTION:From the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education: The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced a series of public listening sessions to solicit feedback on the Chapter 70 school finance formula\, the primary funding program that establishes how Massachusetts distributes education aid to cities and towns. The listening sessions are part of a Chapter 70 Local Contribution Study included in the state’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget and conducted by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and Department of Revenue’s Division of Local Services (DLS). \n“Chapter 70 is the foundation for how we fund our schools. This is an opportunity for the public to help shape the future of a system that affects every student in Massachusetts\,” said Education Secretary Dr. Patrick Tutwiler. “We strongly encourage our educators\, families\, community leaders and stakeholders to attend these sessions and let us know what is working and where we need to make changes.”\n\n“Chapter 70 is a significant contributor to the amount of total funding spent on K-12 public education\, and we invite the public to contribute to this important review of the local contribution part of the formula\,” said DESE Commissioner Pedro Martinez. “We want everyone to have an opportunity to give their feedback—whether you are an educator\, a parent or a community member.”\n\n“The Division of Local Services looks forward to working with DESE to undertake this mandated analysis\,” said Sean Cronin\, senior deputy commissioner for local services at the Department of Revenue.\n\nThese listening sessions will inform the final Chapter 70 Local Contribution Study that examines the methods used to determine each municipality’s target local contribution and required local contribution toward school funding. The study will also consider the impact of factors such as income and property wealth\, the effect on municipal services\, and the unique challenges of rural and regional school districts. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and DLS expect to release the final report in the summer.\n\nVirtual listening session:\nTuesday\, November 18\, 2025 \n4:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.\nVirtual public comment hearing\nRegister online\nIn-person listening sessions:\n  \nThursday\, October 23\, 2025  \n4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.\nMasconomet Regional High School\, 20 Endicott Road\, Boxford\n\nThursday\, October 30\, 2025 \n4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.\nDoherty Memorial High School\, 299 Highland St.\, Worcester\n\nThursday\, November 6\, 2025 \n4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.\nGreenfield High School\, 21 Barr Ave.\, Greenfield\n\n\nWednesday\, November 19\, 2025 \n4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.\nApponequet Regional High School\, 100 Howland Road\, Lakeville\n\nThe Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and DLS encourage the submission of written comments\, which can be emailed toC70PublicComment@mass.gov. SUMMARY:Community Meeting | South Harbor Implementation Plan Update
DESCRIPTION:From the Office of Mayor Jared Nicholson: The City of Lynn will host a community meeting on Monday\, September 15 at 6:00 PM at the Demakes Family YMCA to provide updates on the South Harbor Implementation Plan (SHIP) and discuss possible next steps. \nAdopted just over a year ago\, the SHIP has already enjoyed significant progress\, including expanded ferry service\, the opening of Harbor Park\, community engagement on the Lynnway’s future\, and federal funding for a new public stop at River Works station. Several private development projects are also advancing\, contributing to the transformation of the South Harbor neighborhood. \n“We are proud of the progress we are seeing in South Harbor\,” said Mayor Jared Nicholson. “But we know there’s more work ahead. As a City\, we will continue to be proactive and assertive about the change we want to see in the neighborhood.” \n\n“The SHIP helps us look at the district as a whole\, and think carefully about how individual properties can best support a complete\, vibrant neighborhood.”\n– Planning Director Aaron Clausen \n\nThe discussion will focus on tools needed to expand the street network and unlock the potential of long-vacant lots in South Harbor — two priorities identified during the SHIP planning process. \nThe event is open to the public\, and Spanish interpretation will be available. \nClick here to learn more
