SUMMARY:Climate Change in New England — One of the World’s Fastest Warming Regions
DESCRIPTION:From Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn (UUCGL): Did you know New England is warming faster—and losing its snow cover more quickly—than global averages \n Rising seas\, intensifying droughts\, and severe flooding are no longer distant possibilities; they’re emerging across our region right now. Yes\, we’ll still see those classic bitter winters and heavy snowfalls\, but they’re becoming fewer and farther between. \nJoin us on Monday\, March 16 at 6:30pm for a free\, eye‑opening presentation with climate researcher Professor Stephen Young\, who will break down the changes already reshaping New England\, the science behind these shifts\, and what the future may hold for our communities\, landscapes\, and seasons. \nThis talk draws from Professor Young’s recent publication in the journal Climate (December 2025). \nThis is a free event\, but registration is required. Save your spot now for this presentation you won’t want to miss! Ample free parking. For more information\, click here. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Pondside Chorus: A Vernal Pool Experience
DESCRIPTION:From the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn: A Presentation\, Live Animal Exhibit\, and Vernal Pool Exploration being held on Monday\, April 13th at 6:30pm. \nEver wonder what makes those “BLEEP-BLEEP-BLEEP” and “CHIRP-CHIRP-CHIRP” sounds in the woods? On warm\, rainy spring days\, the forest comes alive with mysterious calls. Are they birds? Bugs? Frogs? Something else entirely? \nCome find out at a free\, family-friendly exploration of vernal ponds and the amazing creatures that depend on them. Vernal ponds are temporary\, fishless wetlands that fill with rainfall and snow melt. They’re essential breeding grounds for amphibians and other species and they can be found right here in Swampscott! \n🎥 The Adventure Begins Indoors  \nWe’ll kick things off with “Vernal Ponds\,” a 15‑minute film created by the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team and shot entirely on Cape Ann. The video offers a fascinating introduction to vernal pond ecology and the hidden world these temporary wetlands support. \n🐸 Meet the Experts (and the Wildlife!)  \nRick Roth from the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team will share why vernal pond certification and protection matter\, answer your questions\, and introduce you to a few live frogs\, salamanders\, and other critters up close. \n🌲 Then We Head Into the Woods*  \nAfter the indoor program\, we’ll venture outside together for a guided walk to a certified vernal pool in the woods surrounding the building. Experience firsthand the sights and sounds of these seasonal habitats and the wildlife that rely on them. \n*Rain or Shine! If participating in the exploration\, we recommend you wear waterproof footwear and bring a flashlight. \n\nClick here to register for free

SUMMARY:“Glitter Road”: A Reading and Conversation with January Gill O’Neil
DESCRIPTION:Click for full-resolution flier\nFrom Massachusetts Center for the Book: Join the North Shore Community College Lynn Campus Library for an afternoon with January Gill O’Neil\, author of Glitter Road\, a Massachusetts Book Awards Honors title in poetry. O’Neil will read from her celebrated collection\, speak about her writing process\, and share insights into her approach to crafting poems before opening the floor for an audience Q&A. She will also lead a brief writing prompt for anyone who would like to participate. \nGlitter Road opens in the wake of loss\, deep pain\, and anger\, yet the poems insist on finding flashes of celebration and joy—even if that joy is simply\, in the spirit of Lucille Clifton\, “what i have shaped into / a kind of life\,” the triumph of survival and self-recognition. With formal dexterity and richly charged syntax\, O’Neil’s poems resist the silences of fear\, grief\, desire\, and anxiety\, speaking aloud what is so often left unspoken in both private and public life. Her interrogations of race thread through the collection\, shaping a speaker whose history—personal and collective—unfolds with carefully rendered detail. \nThis program is sponsored by the Mass Book Awards Speakers Bureau and is presented in collaboration with the Massachusetts Center for the Book. \nJANUARY GILL O’NEIL is a poet and author of Glitter Road\, Rewilding\, Misery Islands\, and Underlife. Her work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine\, American Poetry Review\, and Poetry\, among other publications. She has received fellowships from Cave Canem\, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, and the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund\, among others. O’Neil is an associate professor at Salem State University and lives in Massachusetts. \nMore about the event by clicking here.\nTo learn more please email info@massbook.org

SUMMARY:Open House | Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project
DESCRIPTION:From the MBTA: The MBTA\, City of Lynn\, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) are working to make the Lynnway safer\, more accessible\, and more connected. \nWe invite you to attend one of our events this spring to learn about the Lynnway draft concept design and provide your feedback. You will learn about how the project will make the road safer\, improve transit service\, modernize traffic signals\, and better serve the corridor’s future development. We will also share details about street trees and how we’re coordinating with other projects. \nAll four open houses will have the exact same information – please choose the one that is most convenient for you. Can’t make it in person? You can join the virtual public meeting or provide feedback online (coming soon). \nLynn Community Open House (in person)\nThursday\, May 7\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nWelcome Center\, Lynn Public Schools\n195 Market Street\, Lynn\, MA 01901 \nSwampscott Community Open House (in person)\nWednesday\, May 13\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nSwampscott Senior Center\n200R Essex Street\, Rear\, Swampscott\, MA 01907 \nVirtual Public Meeting\nThursday\, May 14\, 2026\, 6:00 – 7:30 PM\nVirtual Zoom Meeting: Register Here \nNahant Community Open House (in person)\nTuesday\, May 19\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nNahant Town Hall\n334 Nahant Road\, Nahant\, MA 01908 \nMarblehead Community Open House (in person)\nWednesday\, May 20\, 2026\, 5:30 – 7:30 PM\nMarblehead Senior Center\n10 Humphrey Street\, Marblehead\, MA 01945 \nAbout the Project\nThe Lynnway is a major roadway\, part of Route 1A\, and is owned and operated by DCR. The project area extends north from the General Edwards Bridge at the Revere city line to just north of Market Street and serves as a significant north-south connection to and within the city. For decades\, the Lynnway’s design has prioritized the movement of motor vehicles\, resulting in a difficult and intimidating area for pedestrians\, cyclists\, and bus riders to navigate\, and serving as a barrier to the waterfront. \nThe Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project will include safety and reliability improvements for all modes of transportation – from those who drive\, walk\, and bike to those who take public transportation. As part of this project\, there will also be improved access both across and along the Lynnway\, making it safer for people to access places like the new Harbor Park. \nThe Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project builds upon several plans from the MBTA\, City of Lynn\, and Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Safe\, multimodal transportation improvements to the Lynnway are essential to supporting the City’s vision for the area to transform it as a gateway to the Lynn community. \nAccommodations\nThis meeting is accessible to people with disabilities and those with limited proficiency in English. Spanish interpretation will be available at the Lynn Open House and Virtual Public Meeting. Accessibility accommodations and language services will be provided free of charge\, upon request\, as available. For more information or to request a reasonable accommodation and/or language services\, please email BetterBusProject@mbta.com \nMore Information\nLearn more at MBTA.com/Lynnway.
