SUMMARY:2026 Khmer New Year Community Fair
DESCRIPTION:From Kakrona Center Inc.: The Khmer New Year Community Fair is our signature event\, a day when the historic Lynn Commons is transformed into a sea of color\, music\, and cultural pride. This festival is a labor of love for Kakrona Center Inc.\, designed to welcome the new year with open hearts and a shared spirit of “Khmer Help Khmer.” It serves as a vital bridge between generations and a platform for our community to showcase the richness of Cambodian cuisine\, traditional arts\, and modern performances to the greater Lynn area. \nThis year\, we are excited to elevate the experience with new performances\, expanded cultural activities\, and an even wider variety of local vendors. Thousands of neighbors and visitors gather annually to enjoy the live band\, witness the beauty of traditional dance\, and taste the authentic flavors of our food vendors. Beyond the festivities\, this fair is a statement of our presence and our contribution to the cultural fabric of Massachusetts. We welcome everyone—families\, students\, and neighbors—to join us for a day of unity and celebration. Whether you are there to enjoy the music or to support our local entrepreneurs\, your presence helps us keep our heritage thriving for years to come. \nPre-festival parade:\nStarts from City Hall Square at 7:30am \nFestival:\nOn Lynn Common from 10am-6pm \nClick here for event updates\n\n\n\nApril 20th update from Kakrona: We are officially just ONE WEEK away from our Khmer New Year Festival and the excitement is building! SUMMARY:“Glitter Road”: A Reading and Conversation with January Gill O’Neil
DESCRIPTION:Click for full-resolution flier\nFrom Massachusetts Center for the Book: Join the North Shore Community College Lynn Campus Library for an afternoon with January Gill O’Neil\, author of Glitter Road\, a Massachusetts Book Awards Honors title in poetry. O’Neil will read from her celebrated collection\, speak about her writing process\, and share insights into her approach to crafting poems before opening the floor for an audience Q&A. She will also lead a brief writing prompt for anyone who would like to participate. \nGlitter Road opens in the wake of loss\, deep pain\, and anger\, yet the poems insist on finding flashes of celebration and joy—even if that joy is simply\, in the spirit of Lucille Clifton\, “what i have shaped into / a kind of life\,” the triumph of survival and self-recognition. With formal dexterity and richly charged syntax\, O’Neil’s poems resist the silences of fear\, grief\, desire\, and anxiety\, speaking aloud what is so often left unspoken in both private and public life. Her interrogations of race thread through the collection\, shaping a speaker whose history—personal and collective—unfolds with carefully rendered detail. \nThis program is sponsored by the Mass Book Awards Speakers Bureau and is presented in collaboration with the Massachusetts Center for the Book. \nJANUARY GILL O’NEIL is a poet and author of Glitter Road\, Rewilding\, Misery Islands\, and Underlife. Her work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine\, American Poetry Review\, and Poetry\, among other publications. She has received fellowships from Cave Canem\, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, and the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund\, among others. O’Neil is an associate professor at Salem State University and lives in Massachusetts. \nMore about the event by clicking here.\nTo learn more please email info@massbook.org
