Across cultures and generations\, the Banyan Tree has carried deep meaning—and it’s the perfect inspiration for a collaborative creation rooted in connection\, care\, and growth. \nIn many parts of the world—especially India and Southeast Asia—the Banyan Tree is more than just a tree. \n\n\nIn Hinduism\, it represents immortality\, spiritual wisdom\, and divine shelter\, often linked to gods like Vishnu and Shiva. \n\n\nIn Buddhism\, it’s connected to the Bodhi Tree\, under which the Buddha found enlightenment. It stands for resilience and inner peace. \n\n\nIn local villages\, it’s a natural meeting place—serving as a center for community and storytelling. \n\n\nThe Banyan Tree is unique in how it grows: from a single seed\, it sends down aerial roots that become trunks\, creating a network of support. \nThis makes it a powerful metaphor for: \n\n\nInterconnection – each root and branch supports the whole \n\n\nCommunity strength – many parts forming a unified structure \n\n\nLegacy – standing tall through generations\, holding memory and history \n\n\nWhy the Banyan Tree for Our Project?\nOur paper Banyan Tree is built just like its real-life counterpart—from many individual contributions. DESCRIPTION:The Galleries at LynnArts will host a vibrant new Pop-UP solo exhibition\, Polyvios Christoforos: From the Collection – Greek Scenes\, Caricatures & Figure Drawings\, from May 14 to May 18\, 2025. The show will be on view in the GALA Community Gallery at 25 Exchange Street in Lynn\, with an Artist’s Reception on Sunday\, May 18\, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. \nPolyvios Christoforos is a North Shore-based artist whose work bridges whimsical imagination and classical observation. Influenced by animation legends like Preston Blair\, Ren & Stimpy\, and Disney classics\, his practice blends storytelling with fine art traditions. A turning point came in an art class at the North Shore Education Consortium\, where painting a spring landscape sparked his lifelong dedication to art. \nThis exhibit features paintings and drawings created over the past 5 to 10 years in workshops and classes around the North Shore. With an emphasis on recent work you will certainly see themes that reoccur throughout the years of his body of work. From richly painted Greek landscapes to expressive caricatures and evocative figure studies\, Of note is the book that he wrote and illustrated\, entitled “Sammy Smart Guy”. DESCRIPTION:Join the Monday Night Drawing Group at the Galleries at LynnArts\, hosted by Annette Sykes of Paint by the Ocean. This weekly session offers artists of all levels the opportunity to draw from a live\, clothed or unclothed model in a relaxed\, supportive environment. Bring your own art supplies and enjoy an evening of creative exploration.​\n\nThese drawing groups will meet every Monday from 6-9pm at GALA. Fees are $18 for GALA Members\, $20 for Non-Members\, & $18 for Students.
