Lynn, MA – Lynn Community Television (LCTV) is proud to announce that they have won two awards from the Alliance for Community Media’s Hometown Media Awards. This is the second consecutive year LCTV has won at the Hometown Media Awards.

LCTV is Lynn’s community media center that produces content with a hyper-local focus and enables the public to use media to express their First Amendment rights. Their staff produces a news program, government and local election coverage, short documentaries, and more. Members of the Lynn community, as well as organizations, are also welcome to become members for access to state-of-the-art equipment to produce various types of programing.

The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) is a national organization representing over 3,000 public access and community media centers. There were over 1,000+ entries submitted to this year’s awards in 30+ categories, all judged by volunteers from other community media centers throughout the country.

LCTV won in the “Community Events – Parades/Festivals” category for their coverage of the 2018 Beyond Walls Mural Festival and “Sports Coverage” category for their video “Training For The Olympic Boxing Team”.  LCTV Director of Operations David Riley Jr. and Community Producer Koeun Neak are responsible for the winning entries.

The 2018 Beyond Walls Mural Festival featured interviews with several of the muralists. The video showcases the artists at work at a few of the dozens of murals sprinkled throughout the Downtown Lynn Cultural District, as well as the block party that ended the week-long festival.

“Lynn Community TV is always front and center covering the happenings in Lynn”, said Beyond Walls CEO and Founder Al Wilson, also featured in the video. “They are a true community asset and we are so pleased that they’ve continued to be nationally recognized for their work.”

The training for the Olympic boxing team video featured interviews with local boxers Charles Espinal and Daniel Marte, as well as their trainers. The video gives us insight into the process of training for the Olympic team and opportunity to see these boxers in action.

“I am so honored and blessed for everyone who helped with this video, all my Private Jewels Boxing supporters and my boxers that give their all everyday”, said Alex Sepulveda. Alex is the owner of Private Jewels Fitness and Boxing Club, and was also featured in the video alongside trainer Furcy Ferreras.

With these wins, Lynn Community Television now has three national awards. Last year they were awarded their first national award, for coverage of the 2017 Beyond Walls Mural Festival. Earlier this year LCTV also won three awards at the state level, from the MA Creator Awards. These awards are organized by MassAccess, a member-based advocacy group for community media centers in Massachusetts. LCTV is a long-time member of both the ACM and MassAccess, and is proud to support their efforts.

Lynn Community TV and all other winners of these national awards will be presented with their plaques at the 2019 Hometown Media Awards Celebration, being held this year in Portland, Oregon on July 11. LCTV staff will be attending the ceremony.
