2023 Preliminary Election Voting Information

The City of Lynn Preliminary Election will be held on Tuesday, September 5th, with polls open from 7am – 8pm. There are many ways for residents to vote, and also some deadlines to keep in mind. Below is some information to help you vote in the upcoming Preliminary Election, courtesy of the City of Lynn Election Office!


WHO am i voting for?

  • Councilor At-Large: There are 4 seats up for grabs, with 8 candidates.
  • School Committee: There are 6 seats up for grabs, with 12 candidates.
  • Ward Councilor: There are 7 wards in Lynn, each with 1 Ward Councilor.
    • Ward Councilors in Wards 3, 5, 6, & 7 are all running unopposed this Election Cycle.
    • There are candidates running in Wards 1, 2, & 4. Only 2 candidates from each race may advance to November’s election.

REGISTER TO VOTE

  • The last day to register to vote for the Sept. 5 election is Friday, August 25.
    • No matter how you register to vote, in person or by mail, the deadline is August 25th.
    • The last day to register to vote for the November election is Friday, October 27.
  • Register online by clicking here.
  • Register in-person at the Lynn Election Office in Room 203 of Lynn City Hall.
  • There will be voter registration tables at the Diversity Matters Festival on August 12th and Lynnside Out Festival on Sept. 9th.
  • Check your registration status:
  • You should receive a confirmation notice in 2 to 3 weeks. If you do not receive a confirmation notice, or wish to confirm your voter registration status, please call 781-586-6803, email sbullock@lynnma.gov, or to check online please click here.

Vote by mail

  • August 28 is the last day to submit applications to vote by mail in the September election.
    • October 31 is the last day to submit applications to vote by mail in the November election.
  • If you are not able to vote in person, you can apply to vote by mail. You do not need a reason to vote by mail.
  • Voters can return the ballot in person, at the 24/7 vote mailbox in the Johnson St parking lot, or by mail.

  • Voted ballots must be received in the Election office on/by Election Day at 8pm (close of polls).

BALLOT POSITIONS

Below is the order that candidates will appear on the ballot on September 5th. On August 4th staff at the City of Lynn Election Office drew the positions for the ballot, which you can see here.

Please note that ballot positions will be pulled again on September 12th for the Final Election on November 7th.
