City of Lynn Seeks Public Input on Green Infrastructure Pilot Projects

The City of Lynn is designing flood reduction projects to reduce the potential impacts from natural hazards and climate change identified in the Strawberry Brook Resilient Stormwater Management and Implementation Plan. This year, the first pilot Green Infrastructure projects will be installed near the intersection of Boston Street and Mall Street and will include concept designs for future installation at Barry Park/G.E.A.A. Field. These two projects will inform future applications seeking additional grant funding to support additional Green Infrastructure improvements around the city. These projects are being designed to improve stormwater quality, flood mitigation and to reduce urban heat island effects to benefit the community.

The City is seeking input from the public on these and future stormwater resiliency projects. Feedback from the community is vital to capture local needs and ideas. With your feedback, these capital investments and street upgrades can also provide targeted co-benefits to residents and businesses in addition to improving stormwater management and reducing the heat island affect, such as enhanced public health and safety, multi-modal access, and promoting neighborhood investment.

Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, project information and opportunities to give input are being provided online instead of at in-person meetings. Anyone interested in this project is encouraged to attend a virtual public meeting on April 7 at 5:00PM, hosted by the Mayor’s office and Lynn EDIC. Come share your ideas and learn more about green infrastructure projects being designed for Boston Street and Barry Park/GEAA Field! Register at this link: tinyurl.com/LynnMVPmtg to receive information on how to join the virtual meeting.

Please note, materials will be available in English and Spanish. There will be additional opportunities for public input throughout implementation of the Strawberry Brook Plan. The latest information about project updates is available on a dedicated project webpage.

This project is funded through a grant award from the Commonwealth’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant program, which provides technical and financial support for cities and towns to implement projects to increase resiliency for climate change.

If you would like to receive updates on this project or have questions, please email Aaron Clausen, Principal Planner (aclausen@lynnma.gov).
