City announces Follow-Up Survey for Open Space and Recreation Plan

Lynn residents have been clear about the importance of improving, updating, and maintaining our parks and natural resources. In our Vision Lynn kickoff survey, nearly half of respondents identified our natural resources as the thing they loved most about Lynn. In the Mayor’s survey about how to spend federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars, parks and recreation was the second-highest ranking focus area, prioritized by 62% of respondents.

To guide this work, the City is updating its’s Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP). The Planning Department was awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development to conduct this work, which needs to be completed every seven years and was last done in 2016. OSRPs are approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and help a community plan for the future of its conservation and recreation resources. Once Lynn has a new OSRP approved, we will be eligible for grants from the Department of Conservation Services for up to seven years.

This survey is being conducted in order to understand the needs and desires of the residents of Lynn regarding open space and recreational facilities.
This is the second of two rounds of surveying conducted as part of the update process. The first survey asked Lynn residents which facilities and programs they need or want to see developed. The second survey will focus on future goals, objectives, and areas of focus for the 2023 OSRP.
