City of Lynn In Critical Drought Status, Mandatory Water Ban In Effect
From the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission: The Northeast region of Massachusetts, including the City of Lynn, is under a Level 3-Critical Drought designation declared by the state. Mandatory Water Ban remains in effect.
A Level 3 drought indicates significantly below normal water levels, including stressed reservoirs, reduced streamflow, and diminished ground water supplies. These conditions increase the risk to our drinking water system and the environmental resources we rely on.
The Lynn Water & Sewer Commission requests the full cooperation of all residents, businesses, and municipal departments in conserving water to reduce water use.

MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS
- All nonessential outdoor water use is prohibited, including watering of lawns and use of irrigation systems.
- The use of irrigation systems is strictly prohibited until further notice.
- The DPW is required to shut off all water used for irrigation in parks, playgrounds, and municipal landscapes.
- Gannon Municipal Golf Course irrigation is limited to greens and tees as necessary. Irrigation of fairways shall be reduced to 40% normal, and there shall be no irrigation of roughs, landscaping and ornamentals.
- The Water Department will continue to prioritize leak detection and repair.
The Commission will issue warnings for first offenses, followed by fines and possible termination of service for repeated violations.
ADDITIONAL CONSERVATION TIPS:
- Check for leaks. i.e. hot water tanks, water meter, running toilet, leaking pipes.
- Do not let water run while brushing teeth and shaving.
- Reduce the length of shower time.
- Operate dishwasher and laundry only with full loads.
The public will be notified when conditions improve and restrictions are lifted.
The Lynn Water & Sewer Commission appreciates your cooperation in conserving water during this Critical Drought Declaration.
