Women’s History Month Civic Engagement Event

March 9

Support LCTV with your membership

In celebration of Women’s History Month, a free, interactive civic engagement event for girls and young women in elementary school, middle school, high school and college is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, at Lynn Museum/Lynn Arts, 590 Washington Street, Lynn, MA 01901.   REGISTER HERE

The event is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts along with its partners, Lynn Museum/ Lynn Arts, Reading Cooperative Bank, LWV of Marblehead, LWV of Salem, Girls Inc. of Boston and Lynn, Healing Abuse, Working for Change (HAWC), Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition, Suffrage100MA, Massachusetts Women’s History Center, Raw Art Works and North Shore Juneteenth Association, Inc.

The morning session (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) is for elementary through eighth grade students and will feature round robin sessions with our collaborators, a hands-on art project with Raw Art Works and a boxed lunch.

The keynote speaker, Laurie Ann Thompson, author of Be a Changemaker: How to Start Something that Matters!, will speak at 1 p.m.  This presentation is on ZOOM and students unable to travel to Lynn may register HERE

Following the keynote, the afternoon session is for high school and college students and will include a presentation – and special announcement – by Fredie Kay, founder and president of Suffrage100MA as well as an inspirational panel discussion facilitated by Pattye Comfort, LWVMA Executive Director, with:

Standing in Our Power, Women of Color Leading Change with Gail Jackson Blount, founder and president, Jackson Communications.

Youth Changers! with Lena Crowley, director of teen and middle school programs, Girls, Inc. of Lynn

What it Takes to Run for Office with Adriana Paz, campaign manager for Nicole McClain, the first Black woman elected to the Lynn City Council
