**Please note that members of the community have reported that KIPP Academy posted a sign saying no parking. The Lynn Police were reported to say that they weren’t notified of the change, and won’t tow cars until the parking ban is lifted **

The City of Lynn is under a blizzard warning from 7AM on Saturday to 5AM on Sunday.
A blizzard was confirmed in boston at approx. saturday, jan, 29th at 6:290pm.
  • Total snow accumulations of 18-24 inches, at times snowfall rates will eclipse 2-4″ per hour.
  • Winds gusting 60-70MPH along the coast.
  • Visibility less than 1/4 mile at times. Frequent whiteout conditions, leading to hazardous travel.
  • We will be watching Saturday’s high tide at 9pm.
  • Police will be stationed at fire houses throughout the city in order to get around.
  • Please make sure to shovel around any outside heating vents to prevent carbon monoxide from backing up into homes. This also holds true when starting your vehicles so shovel around exhaust tail pipes.
  • If the city loses power, it may take up to 72 hours to restore.


Saturday, January 29th updates from Mayor Nicholson:

9PM UPDATE FROM MULTIPLE CITY COUNCILORS:

PARKING BAN will be lifted on Sunday at 8am. Any vehicles on the street before they lift the Parking Ban will be ticketed.All vehicles must be removed from school yards by 10am. Any vehicles not removed by 10am, will be ticketed and towed.

From Councilor Starbard: The city is still short on plow contractors. Please be patient and plan accordingly as plowing operations may take longer in certain neighborhoods, particularly side streets.

6PM UPDATE:

Here is the official update regarding the City’s tow lot on Centre Street.

5:30PM UPDATE:

“Council President Jay Walsh and I took a snowy drive around Lynn to survey the conditions of the streets and neighborhoods. Thank you to the DPW for making great progress during this snowstorm, as well everyone working hard to provide clean streets and sidewalks! Please be patient while crews work to clear the roadway. We ask that you avoid driving unless necessary and we hope you are staying warm and safe!”

A Snow Emergency Parking Ban will go into effect in the City of Lynn starting at 8:00 PM tonight, Friday, January 28, 2022. Residents can move their vehicles to designated city parking lots beginning at 6pm.

No vehicles may park on a public street, sidewalk or at end of dead-end streets. You may face a $170 tow fee (cash only), $150 ticket and a $35 a day storage fee. The tow lot entrance is on Centre St (behind the Western Ave Fire Station).

The Lynn Public Library will be closed on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Due to the forecasted storm, Stop the Spread” Project Beacon COVID-19 testing located at 398 Blossom Street, Lynn Community Health Center testing and vaccine appointments, and vaccine appointments at North Shore Community College will all be closed on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

In addition to extremely heavy snowfall, the impending nor’easter is anticipated to bring high winds, flooding, and power outages to the area. Be prepared by keeping flashlights and extra batteries on hand and make sure mobile devices are fully charged so you can stay connected in the event of an outage. The Lynn Public Library will be closed Saturday, January 29th due to the weather. You can access our online services from home at noblenet.org/Lynn. We will be open today, Friday 1/28, until 5pm. Stop by and stock up before the storm!

From North Shore Community College:

NSCC will be closed Saturday, January 29 due to the predicted blizzard. Scheduled classes and activities at all NSCC locations are cancelled, and all college offices and services are closed.

From the City of Lynn Fire Department:

The Lynn Fire Department is gearing up for what’s being described as one of the most significant snow storms in the last few years. All our apparatus will be fully staffed, as well as an additional medic unit will be in-service. We ask you to please heed the warnings of all local public safety officials.

  • Stay indoors. If you do not need to be out, please don’t.
  • Be prepared for any loss of power due to the high winds that this storm is expected to bring.
  • Charge all your electronic devices now in case you need them later.
  • Please move vehicles off the streets and give the plows access to keep the roads open for our emergency vehicles.

Post storm

  • Please help clean out your local hydrants. This amount of snow we are getting, along with the drifts from the winds will surely cover them.
  • Make sure all of your exhaust vents on your home are cleared of snow.
  • Make sure the exhaust vents on your vehicle are clear of snow if running them in your yard.
  • Check on your elderly neighbors and make sure they are doing okay.
