“Juneteenth 2020 celebration: A virtual Experience” on June 19 from 4-8pm
LCTV has teamed up with the North Shore Juneteenth Association to air a special virtual experience for this year’s Juneteenth holiday. This special will air on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 4-8pm on our Public Access TV channel (Comcast: 3 / Verizon: 38) and be streamed on our website (click here).
This special aims to be a timely cultural celebration of African-American Emancipation & freedom that features their history, music, dance, and more. Nicole McClain (President, North Shore Juneteenth Assoc.) worked with our friends at Medford Community Media to produce this special. She also wanted to quickly explain what Juneteenth is, and sent the following:
Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates the end of enslavement of Black Americans. It is a time to acknowledge how far we have come as Americans and to look to the future with hope. Juneteenth is recognized as a state holiday in all U.S states with the exception of Hawaii, North and South Dakota. Help us make it a national holiday by signing this petition. North Shore Juneteenth Association has been organizing the Juneteenth Celebration since 2017! Thank you to all that have shown support and we can’t wait to celebrate in person next year!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the public was not invited to this year’s Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall on June 9th, but LCTV was there to film the ceremony so that the public is still able to see this ceremony.
Watch on our website anytime by clicking here.

Discussions on Lynn housing market & future of local development
Residents invited to June webinar on local housing market
Q&A with development experts about future of housing in Lynn
Learn about the Lynn housing market and future development from local experts in a virtual community discussion on Wednesday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m., as part of Housing Lynn: A plan for inclusive growth.
Housing Lynn is a community-driven planning process led by the City and the Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development and facilitated by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). To date, the project has included efforts to understand housing challenges, establish housing goals, and consider programs and policies to meet them. Now, the project team wants to work with residents to set development priorities.
MAPC staff will moderate a virtual panel discussion on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., via Zoom and co-streamed to YouTube. The panel will feature Chrystal Kornegay, Executive Director of MassHousing; Andrew DeFranza, Executive Director of Harborlight Community Partnership (HCP); and Matt Zahler, Principal of MPZ Development.
Panelists will discuss the Lynn housing market; the relationships between Affordable Housing, mixed-income development, and market-rate development; and how different housing types and building densities can provide community benefits. Discussion will be followed by a live audience Q&A with the panelists. Residents of different neighborhoods, backgrounds, ages, and incomes are encouraged to share questions.
The discussion will be conducted in English with live Spanish interpretation; please note, participants who call-in only and are unable to join online will not have access to interpretation. However, video recordings in both languages will be posted online afterward for anyone who can’t attend.

The webinar will launch a new phase of work for Housing Lynn, including identification of areas for development and specific kinds of development most appropriate for Lynn, which will take the team through the summer. This fall, the public will be asked to weigh in on these topics to inform plan recommendations.
For more information about the project, contact Karina Milchman, Chief of Housing + Neighborhood Development at MAPC, kmilchman@mapc.org or Jeff Weeden, of the Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development, at jweeden@lhand.org.
