The following press release was submitted to us by Kayak and Sail Lynn (KASL)
Kayak and Sail Lynn (KASL) is a proposed educational program for Lynn youth. KASL promotes positive life skills and values to our YOUTH, through kayaking and sailing in Lynn’s Harbor. We hope to bring the love of kayaking, sailing, and the sea to our young community who would otherwise miss out on this wonderful opportunity.
By the way, it’s so much more than experiencing these new activities. We will also feature community leaders – from the business, political, sports, and other spaces – who will informally contribute to our Youth’s experience. Our Team is a mix of educators and business people that all share a vision for assisting Lynn’s students in becoming the very best that they can be and enjoying one of Lynn’s greatest natural treasures along the way.
This Program will introduce and then teach students to overcome challenges and to witness first hand what is possible when they apply themselves and put goals into place. The KASL program will:
- Provide skills, experiences and confidence to our underserved populations
- Better utilize our city resources
- Provide a support mechanism for local organizations
- Create/nurture our leaders of tomorrow!
The Mission of the KASL is to create a Lynn boating hub of community leaders and youth that results in a sustainable model. This model will provide a seamless combination of resources (manpower, covering operating expenses and related costs) that will result in empowering our Youth in countless ways. Lynn, our neighboring cities, our state and beyond its borders will look at KASL as a shining example of can-do when we unite for a common purpose.
FIRST EVENT DETAILS
Coast to Coast Paddle will provide an instructional and activity based kayak and paddleboard program on Tuesday August 24th from 10am-12pm at the Blossom Street Ext Ramp (398 Blossom Street).
Coast to Coast Paddle will provide two tandem kayaks and two paddleboards to outfit a total of 6 Lynn students. They will also supply two guides to lead the students on a two hour paddle excursion exploring the intertidal waters of Lynn Harbor, including areas adjacent to the Nahant Rd. Causeway and the Rumney Marshes depending on conditions.
The program will include basic paddle instruction, safety orientation, and commentary and discussion on tides, wind, and the importance of these local waterways. They will work in accordance with KASL’s mission to expose local students to the beauty and value of these waterways to foster an appreciation for and desire to protect them.
Coast to Coast Paddle will be responsible for providing all equipment to include: paddleboards and kayaks, paddles, and Personal Flotation Devices (PFD’s). If a paddler wishes to bring their own PFD, they are more than welcome to do so, provided they are USCG approved.
Paddlers are encouraged to wear bathing suits, rash guards, and water-appropriate clothing with the understanding that they will likely get wet. A change of clothes and a towel is highly recommended for after the program. It is recommended that paddlers wear water shoes as well.
All paddlers must sign the Coast to Coast Paddle Waiver prior to the event.
