LCHS Students Participate in Senbazuru Project

The Lynn Classical community has come together for a profound and heartfelt project.

Senbazuru is a beautiful and ancient tradition that involves folding one thousand origami cranes. These sculptures hold symbolic significance, particularly in promoting peace, healing, and good fortune for children. According to legend, folding a thousand cranes grants the folder a wish, often for health, happiness, or peace.

The project, inspired by the Japanese tradition of folding 1,000 origami cranes was globally popularized through the story of Sadako Sasaki, a young survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, who folded a thousand cranes in hopes of recovering from radiation-induced leukemia, the tradition has since become a global symbol of resilience and peace.

“In the wake of recent tragic events, LCHS students and faculty united in grief and resilience with this project of collectively folding one thousand paper cranes as a heartfelt expression of the community’s collective wish for healing, solace, and an end to violence: taking on profound symbolism and transforming tragedy into a powerful message of peace and unity. As the one thousand cranes were delicately crafted and strung together, they not only represented a collective wish for peace, but also the strength of the Lynn community standing together in solidarity,” teacher Aaron Costa said. “The display will remain in the school as a visual testament to LCHS’s determination to overcome adversity and build a safer, more compassionate environment.”

The project, led by students, faculty, and staff, showcases the power of hope and solidarity in the face of adversity.
