From the North Shore Juneteenth Association: Due to the citywide parking ban that went into effect on February 10th, 2026. The Opening Night of the 2026 Local Black Excellence Awards was postponed. While the formal celebration will be rescheduled, the spirit and purpose of the event remain very much alive.
The Local Black Excellence Display, curated by North Shore Juneteenth Association Inc. (NSJA), is currently on view in the foyer of Lynn City Hall.
Community members, schools, and organizations are encouraged to stop by and learn more about the past and present honorees.
NSJA began the work of recognizing Local Black Excellence in 2018, creating space to celebrate individuals whose impact strengthens the North Shore community in meaningful and lasting ways.
The recognition was founded on the belief that excellence is not defined solely by titles, wealth, or status, but also by service, mentorship, advocacy, leadership, and everyday commitment to uplifting others.
The display highlights Black Americans and those from across the African Diaspora who exemplify excellence in diverse ways — from professional achievement to community care. It honors those who mentor youth, support families, advocate for justice, volunteer their time, and help move society forward in positive ways.
A new date for the Opening Night celebration will be announced soon.
All are invited to visit the display at Lynn City Hall and join in on this celebration Black History Month!
