New Executive Director, Monthly E-Newsletter, & more!

Greetings from Seth Albaum, the new Executive Director of LCTV!

This week, I came on board as Executive Director. I’d like to tell you a little bit about where I’m coming from. I believe that community media / cable access centers can play a more vital role today than in 1970’s, when cable systems were first mandated by the FCC to provide space for Public, Education and Local Government channels (PEG).

What makes access television’s role more vital now than ever, is a decline in local content as traditional media outlets are cutting back and consolidating their operations. Public, Educational and Government channels provide an unfiltered view into municipal and community affairs.

While the internet is often blamed for disrupting traditional media’s business model and subsequent cutbacks, I do appreciate how anyone with a smartphone and a social media platform can also find an audience. As Executive Director here just a week, I can already tell you with confidence that LCTV can help its members, through training and equipment, do it better – with better video, better sound, and greater reach.

LCTV is not your grandparent’s Public Access center. The Board of Directors, staff, and I believe in having the latest technology, and in utilizing both our cable channels and online platforms. So, if you haven’t already, please follow LCTV on the web for our Video On Demand, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.

The non-profit, membership driven model LCTV operates by, positions us as an independent outlet for coverage of city boards and committees, civic life, the arts, and as a platform for members to create original programming. But, we need you to make it happen. So, thank you for your continued membership and involvement in Lynn Community Television. Whether you produce content, volunteer on a show, or engage with us watching on cable or online, we value your support. If you are not a member or need to renew, please follow this link for more information.

So, where am I coming from? For over two decades, I’ve been involved in community media in a variety of ways, and in teaching media literacy and related technologies in public schools. About this time of year, in 1998, I began my first public access studio coordinator position. It’s good to be back, and especially nice to be building community through media in Lynn, a city I’ve called home for eleven years.

Looking forward to working with you,

Seth Albaum
