North Shore Juneteenth Association’s Annual Tea Draws Strong Attendance: Celebrating Trail Blazers

From the North Shore Juneteenth Association: The North Shore Juneteenth Association hosted its annual Hats, Heels, Bow Ties, & Blazers Tea on Saturday, April 18 at Spinelli’s Function Hall, welcoming a vibrant and engaged audience for an afternoon centered on culture, leadership, and community connection.

The event welcomed 80 attendees including local elected officials, state representatives, candidates for congress, and community leaders from across the North Shore. Notable sponsors included the Peabody Essex Museum, Lynn Cultural Council, Mass Cultural Council, EDIC Lynn, BOS Legal Group, and Reading Cooperative Bank.

Reflecting the event’s growing significance as a space where civic leadership and community engagement intersect.

This year’s theme, “Blazing the Trail,” was brought to life through a dynamic and thoughtfully curated program. Guests enjoyed live jazz by Upper Room Entertainment, a powerful spoken word performance by Big Brotha Sadi, and moving vocal performances by Eva Davenport.

The keynote address was delivered by Tanisha Sullivan, a respected leader and advocate who currently serves as President of the NAACP’s New England Area Conference. In her role, she provides leadership and support to NAACP branches across the region and previously served as President of the Boston Branch of the NAACP.

Sullivan has dedicated her career to advancing justice, equity, and civic engagement throughout Massachusetts and New England.

Her remarks reflected the heart of the event’s theme, encouraging others to step forward, lead boldly, and create pathways for those who follow. Her message resonated deeply with attendeesand served as a powerful reminder of the importance of courage, representation, and civic participation.

The Tea continues to stand out as a signature event that elevates culture while intentionally cultivating an upscale and welcoming atmosphere. Attendees left feeling encouraged, connected, and energized, while also supporting the ongoing work of the North Shore Juneteenth Association. The organization also hosts Juneteenth celebrations, youth initiatives, and year-round programming.
