Saint Pius V School in Lynn proudly celebrates its 80th anniversary with a grand event to mark this historic milestone. School families, alumni, and faculty will gather for an 80th Anniversary Gala at the Knights of Columbus in Lynn on April 25th, 2025. This special evening will honor the school’s rich legacy and contributions to Catholic education while raising funds for its continued growth and improvement. Alumni, community members, and local businesses are generously supporting the event through sponsorships, program ads, and auction donations.
Since its founding by St. Pius V Parish and the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1945, St. Pius V School has been a cornerstone of Catholic education in the city. In its early years, St. Pius Parish acquired the former Sanborn public school building on Maple Street to house the school, which started with just two grades. To accommodate a growing student body, the current school building on Bowler Street was constructed in 1959. This facility was uniquely designed to house the Sisters of Saint Joseph, who lived on the third floor while teaching on the first and second floors.
Over time, the school faculty transitioned from devoted resident nuns to a dedicated team of teachers, and the campus evolved to meet the needs of modern education. The sisters’ former living quarters have been transformed into the Callahan Science Center and resource rooms, and new educational technologies have been integrated into all classrooms. St. Pius V School now serves hundreds of students a year from PreK through grade 8. The school continues to innovate while staying true to its mission of academic excellence, faith formation, and service.
At its core, St. Pius V School embraces its motto: “Do your best and be kind to others.” This guiding principle has instilled a strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, and dedication to service in the thousands of students who have passed through its doors. Graduates of St. Pius have gone on to make meaningful contributions, carrying forward the values instilled during their formative years and leaving a lasting impact on the local and wider communities
Longtime first-grade teacher and parent of alumni, Amanda Smith, has seen firsthand how the school equips its students for the future. “St. Pius is an amazing school that really prepares students for the years ahead in high school and beyond.” says Smith, “I see my former students excel as I hear about them as young adults, and I see my own twins now preparing for college after successful educational experiences at St Pius V and Malden Catholic High School.”
Generations of students have benefited from a well-rounded education rooted in Catholic values, preparing them for success in high school, college, and beyond. Principal Mary Beth Noe’ emphasizes the school’s unwavering commitment to fostering both intellectual growth and moral character, stating, “Saint Pius V School has educated students throughout the Lynn area for decades, teaching critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. We continue to provide our students with limitless possibilities for the future, while also instilling Christ-centered Catholic values. I believe Saint Pius V School is truly one of the best gifts parents or grandparents can give to their child.”
As St. Pius V School reflects on 80 years of academic excellence and faith-based education, its mission remains as strong as ever. While the campus and faculty have evolved, the school’s dedication to educating young minds and instilling strong values remains unchanged. With a rich history as its foundation and a bright future ahead, St. Pius V School continues to be a place where students live out the motto: “Do your best and be kind to others.”
