GAR & Lynn Museums present: Defending Democracy | October 4, 2023

On October 4, 2023 the Grand Army of The Republic Museum & Lynn Museum presented “Defending Democracy” at the Lynn Auditorium. This program featured History Scholars, Social Justice groups, and living historians (Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass) to speak on the importance of learning about our own History, and what we can do together to Defend our Democracy. Topics touched on included economic inequality, book banning, voter suppression, and the marginalization of Black History. Speakers included MA. Secretary of Education Dr. Patrick Tutwiler, Dr. Kabria Baumartner from Northeastern University, Former Mayor of Beaufort, SC Billy Keyserling, and more local and national leaders.
