The City of Lynn has multiple openings for boards and commissions and is seeking volunteer applicants. There are currently openings on the Parks Commission, Housing Authority (LHAND) Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals. Applicants should be able to commit to the time schedules for meetings. A lack of participation will qualify as grounds for removal from the board. More information for the boards and commissions are below:
Parks Commission
The Parks Commission reviews requests for public parks, playgrounds, fields, and other forms of City-owned. Applicants with diverse knowledge and/or experience planning, land use, or community development are strongly encouraged to apply! The commission meets every first Tuesday of the month. Some examples include Park Ranger, Natural Resource Manager, Park Equity Fellow, and Conservationist

Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development Commission
The Board of Commissioners is the legally and financially responsible governing body of a Public Housing Authority that provides leadership and champions the mission of the agency. The Board also provides oversight by; monitoring the agency’s ability to meet statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations; safeguarding the financial integrity of the Housing Authority; reviewing, approving, and monitoring financial documents; ensuring ethical, legal, and effective performance; keeping informed of subsidized housing industry rules and regulations.
Commissioners must actively participate in Board meetings, conduct, and monitor an accurate record of Board proceedings as well as follow the open meeting requirements. Commissioners must become aware of agency-owned developments, properties, and policies. They must also become familiar with open meeting requirements and confidentiality, as well as Federal and State laws and regulations.
Applicant must be a Lynn resident.

Zoning board of appeals
The ZBA is tasked with approving or denying variances for properties in Lynn that wish to be excused from the normal zoning requirements of the city. This board plays an important role in approaching development in the city in an informed and equitable way. The Zoning Bylaws regulate lot size, setback, frontage, and use. The Zoning Board of Appeals is empowered to hear and vote on requests for variances from the terms of the Zoning Bylaws.
Applicants must be able to read plans and maps, receive emails and knowledge of how to use a computer, to do on-site visits, provide feedback at meetings, and assist the residents of Lynn in accommodating their needs within the vision of City and abutters. The ZBA is scheduled to meet on the Ist and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7PM.
