From LynnLab: Lynn area high schoolers are invited to BE-Lynn!
Presented by LynnLab and graduate students from the MIT Institute for Medical Engineering and Science, the “BE-Lynn: Biotech Explorers Lynn” program will allow for students to explore hands-on activities and practice skills in biological and medical sciences including research laboratory bench skills, cardiovascular mechanics and physiology, microbial ecosystems and microbiome, immunology and infectious disease, & machine leaming and artificial intelligence.

This program will accommodate 24 students in grades 9-12, is administered by an educator, and staffed by an instructor and 2-3 teaching assistants. Sessions run for three hours each featuring a talk session, hands-on activities, and panel discussions with experts in the field. Session are also unique, allowing students to miss a session without falling behind.
Sessions will be held on Saturdays from 10am-1pm at North Shore Community College’s Lynn campus over 8 weeks, from September 13 – November 1. Students are paid a $50 stipend for each session they attend. Breakfast snacks and lunch are provided.
Potential session topics include
- DNA transcription and translation
- Gene editing
- Cardiovascular mechanics
- Microbiology and microbiome
- Testing for antigens and antibodies
- Micropipetting, gel electrophoresis and PCR
- Microscopy
- Neurobiology
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning
Program requirements:
- Complete application.
- Current high school student From Lynn or surrounding community.
- Expressed interest in STEM school work and future path.
- Reference provided by school personnel or STEM program staff.
- Able to attend all sessions.
- Able to commute to North Shore Community College Lynn Campus.
