From the Office of State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg: The Massachusetts State Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division (UCP) will launch its Claim Mass Money program for the first time this week, sending letters to thousands of Massachusetts residents as part of its ongoing effort to proactively reunite residents with unclaimed funds. The launch follows months of work by State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg and the UCP team to develop and implement a streamlined process that makes it easier for eligible residents to reclaim money owed to them.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for Massachusetts residents to reclaim money that rightfully belongs to them,” said Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg. “This program shows our commitment to finding new ways to reach residents, remove barriers, and return unclaimed funds to their rightful owners.”

The program offers eligible individuals a streamlined, fast-track claims process that automatically approves eligible claims without requiring paper claim forms or additional supporting documentation. The division uses LexisNexis data to verify property owners and identify individuals who may be entitled to unclaimed funds.

Prior to the implementation of the Claim Mass Money program, the Unclaimed Property Division faced external restrictions that limited its ability to use data matching to proactively identify and reunite property owners with their funds. The Treasurer and the UCP team continue to explore innovative and effective ways to expand outreach and return unclaimed money to its rightful owners.

Over the last five years, UCP, under Treasurer Goldberg’s leadership, has returned more than $1 billion.
Residents who receive a letter do not need to search the unclaimed property database or submit a traditional claim. Instead, eligible recipients can use the unique claim ID provided in their letter to verify their information and complete a simplified online process.

In Fiscal Year 2026, 61,358 claims were eligible for the fast-track process, totaling $5,203,486.27.

The Unclaimed Property Division is also reminding residents to remain vigilant against potential scams and to verify the authenticity of communications regarding unclaimed property. Official correspondence about the Claim Mass Money program will clearly identify the Massachusetts State Treasury and direct recipients to FindMassMoney.gov.

Massachusetts residents should exercise caution when responding to unsolicited requests for personal or financial information and should verify communications through official Massachusetts State Treasury channels. Residents should also remember that there is never a fee to claim property directly from the Unclaimed Property Division.

Through Claim Mass Money, the Unclaimed Property Division is taking a proactive approach to making it easier for eligible residents to recover funds owed to them while helping ensure the process is accessible, secure and efficient.
