$15 Commuter Rail Marathon Pass & MBTA Service Information for October 11 | September 30, 2021

Fall Commuter Rail schedules also go into effect on October 11 and are available at mbta.com/commuterrail; most train times adjusted between one and five minutes.

 Today the MBTA announced special fare and service information for the 2021 Boston Marathon, which takes place on Monday, October 11, 2021. Fall 2021 Commuter Rail schedules also go into effect on October 11 and are available at mbta.com/commuterrail.

To find the best Marathon viewing location on the T, customers are encouraged to visit the MBTA’s Boston Marathon Guide, which highlights MBTA stations closest to the Marathon route and includes helpful information on purchasing fares, parking, and more.

The MBTA also reminds customers that face coverings are required on all MBTA vehicles and within the system with more safety information available at mbta.com/ridesafer. Masks also continue to be available from MBTA Transit Ambassadors and Customer Service Agents at Maverick, North Station, Haymarket, South Station, JFK/UMass, Ashmont, Braintree, Harvard, Park Street, Copley, Kenmore, Back Bay, and Forest Hills.

$15 Commuter Rail Marathon Pass:

On October 11, the MBTA is offering a special $15 Marathon Pass valid for all-day, unlimited travel on all Commuter Rail lines through all zones. This special $15 Marathon Pass is available for purchase beginning Monday, October 4, through October 11 on the mTicket app and from ticket offices at North, South, and Back Bay Stations. The $15 Marathon Pass is also available aboard trains via cash or credit card on October 11 only.

MBTA Service Information for the 2021 Boston Marathon:

For public safety reasons, Copley Station is closed for the entire day on October 11. Customers are instead encouraged to use Arlington Station (serving all Green Line branches), Prudential Station (Green Line E branch), Hynes Convention Center Station (Green Line B, C, and D branches), or Back Bay Station on the Orange Line. From approximately 10 AM to 6 PM, above-ground Green Line stops at South Street (B branch), Kent Street (C branch), and St. Mary’s Street (C branch) will be closed. 

The Red, Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines will operate a regular weekday schedule on October 11 with additional service before and after the race.

Buses and trackless trolleys will operate a regular weekday schedule on October 11, though some bus routes will be detoured to accommodate the Marathon and other festivities. Pre-marathon events including a virtual race are also scheduled the weekend prior, resulting in route adjustments to various bus routes. Customers are encouraged to subscribe to T-Alerts and check the mbta.com/marathon for more information on these changes.

All Commuter Rail lines will operate a regular weekday schedule on October 11, though customers are encouraged to check the fall 2021 Commuter Rail schedules in advance that also go into effect on October 11 for any timetable adjustments. As a result of the switch to the regional rail-style of service last spring, all Commuter Rail lines offer regular train service approximately every hour throughout the day. The fall 2021 Commuter Rail schedules include minor changes with most train times adjusted between one and five minutes. All commuter boat and ferry service as well as The RIDE service will operate a regular weekday schedule.

Bicycles are prohibited onboard all MBTA subway vehicles (including folding bicycles) for the entire day on October 11. Backpacks, coolers, cans, bottles, and large items are not permitted at the Marathon.

Additional Fare Information:

Customers traveling around Boston to watch the Marathon are encouraged to purchase a $12.75 1-Day Pass valid for unlimited subway and bus travel, which are available from any station fare vending machine and valid for 24 hours after purchase.

Parking Information:

Customers planning to park in an MBTA garage or lot on October 11 should allow additional travel time and note that some garages and lots may fill very quickly due to heavy parking demand. Real-time parking capacity information for Alewife, Beverly, Braintree, Route 128, Salem, Quincy Adams, Wonderland, and Woodland continues to be tweeted from @MBTA_Parking.
