Changes continue to be aimed at preserving access and quality of service for transit-critical communities, providing service for returning riders, and supporting new travel patterns.

On Feb. 28 the MBTA announced that upcoming spring service changes for bus and subway will take effect in March 2022, and Commuter Rail and ferry service changes will take effect in May 2022.

The MBTA’s Service Planning Team will hold a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, to outline these changes in detail, and to allow the public to ask questions and provide input. Members of the public may also offer input by emailing publicengagement@mbta.com. For a full and complete listing of all upcoming service changes, please visit mbta.com/servicechanges.

Subway Service Changes:

Effective the afternoon of Monday, March 21, 2022, the Union Square Branch of the Green Line Extension (GLX) will open to MBTA riders. Union Square Station will join the Green Line, and Lechmere and Science Park/West End Stations, which were closed during construction, will reopen.

Effective Monday, March 14, 2022, Green Line weekday schedules will shift throughout the day with the Green Line C branch adding one weekday trip.

There will be no schedule changes on the Red, Orange, and Blue Lines.

Complete subway service schedules will be posted in early March.

Bus Service Changes:

The MBTA continues an aggressive hiring campaign for bus operators. While this hiring campaign takes place, bus service changes continue to be made with special focus on maintaining service levels on routes with durable ridership, increasing service on the most crowded routes, adapting service to accommodate new in-person school and work trips, and maintaining the flexibility to make changes to schedules as needed. Some bus schedule changes will go into effect on Sunday, March 13, 2022, though bus service levels this spring will be similar to winter 2022 schedules.

A number of routes will operate with increased frequency, some routes will operate with less frequency, and a few routes will operate with both increased and decreased frequency depending on the time of day. Some routes will also undergo routing and trip changes.

Due to the reopening of Lechmere Station, Bus Routes 69, 80, 87, and 88 will use the new Lechmere Station busway on Water Street beginning Monday, March 21, 2022. Due to roadway construction causing detours and other service changes, Bus Routes 71, 73, 77, and the SL2 will be detoured this spring.

For complete bus route schedules, please visit mbta.com/servicechanges or each route’s individual schedule page.

Commuter Rail Service Changes:

New Commuter Rail schedules for spring 2022 will be available in May.

Ferry Service Changes:

Beginning Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, May 28, 2022), weekend service will resume between Hingham, Hull, Logan Airport, and Long Wharf.

Full ferry spring 2022 ferry schedules will be available soon.
