City of Lynn, LEO, MassDOT launch Lynn Safe Streets for People Playbook (Lynn SSFPP) | October 21, 2021

Entering 2021, efforts to improve the experience of people walking, biking, and taking transit in Lynn have considerable momentum; 2020 saw the start of construction on a new segment of the Northern Strand Trail and the implementation of the first bus lanes and bike lanes in Lynn. The City’s progress in this area came during the COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated existing inequities and reinforced the importance of understanding transportation through a lens of social and economic justice.

The Lynn SSFPP process aims to sustain the City’s momentum by uniting various initiatives under common goals and strategies. In partnership with MassDOT (Massachusetts Department of Transportation), community stakeholders, and the public, the City of Lynn will identify priority streets for improvement and develop strategies to support the creation of a safe network for all users, with an emphasis on walking, biking, and taking transit.

The City of Lynn and MassDOT formed a partnership with local community action agency and service provider, LEO Inc., to lead on-the-ground engagement for the Lynn Safe Streets for People initiative during the summer of 2021. LEO met with the public about the SSFPP at festivals and events throughout the summer, collecting surveys and sharing incentives supported by the Solomon Foundation. These incentives included raffle entries for prizes like bikes, helmets, and Market Basket gift cards, giveaways like bike reflectors, and free bike tune-ups provided at the Diversity Matters Festival.

A partir de 2021, los esfuerzos para mejorar la experiencia de las personas que caminan, andan en bicicleta y toman el transporte público en Lynn tienen un impulso considerable; 2020 vio el inicio de la construcción de un nuevo segmento del sendero Northern Strand y la implementación de los primeros carriles de autobús y carriles de bici en Lynn.
