From the North Shore Juneteenth Association: Join the North Shore Juneteenth Association and the First Church of the Nazarene for a community reading of one of the most powerful speeches in American history.
On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass delivered “What, to the Slave, Is the Fourth of July?” -a speech that challenged the nation to live up to its ideals of liberty, justice, and equality. More than 170 years later, his words continue to inspire important conversations about freedom, democracy, and our shared responsibility to build a more perfect union.
This event is open to everyone. Whether you’d like to read a short passage aloud or simply listen, we invite you to be part of this meaningful community experience.
