Mandatory Water Ban

NOVEMBER 15, 2022 UPDATE FROM LYNN WSC

As of November 13th, the Total Capacity of LWSC Reservoir System was at 38.0%. Please note that the capacity was below 51% placing LWSC in “Enforced Bans” status.

Due to the extreme dry weather pattern experienced throughout the Greater Boston Area, the reservoir system that serves the City of Lynn’s drinking water supply has dropped below 51% of its maximum capacity. Pursuant to the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission’s (Commission’s) Water Conservation Policy and Drought Management Plan, a Mandatory Water Ban has been imposed on the use of water in our community.

The Commission requests the cooperation of ALL Lynn residents, Municipal Departments, restaurants, and businesses in conserving water as part of an effort to relieve demands on the drinking water supply. The following list identifies actions requested by the Commission in order to conserve water:

  • The Commission has imposed a ban on all outdoor water use.
  • The Commission has requested that the Lynn Department of Public Works shut off water for sprinkler use in parks, playgrounds, flower beds, etc.
  • The Commission has requested that the Lynn Department of Public Works shut off water on the Gannon Municipal Golf Course.
  • The Commission will place repair of leaks as a top priority item.
  • Fire Hydrants shall only be used for fighting fires and for Water Quality purposes.
  • Restrict restaurants to serve water only upon request.

The Commission will issue warnings for first offenses and impose fines or termination of service for repeated violations.

Additional Conservation Tips:

  • Check for leaks in pipes and faucets.
  • Don’t let the water run while brushing your teeth or shave.
  • Limit your shower to 5 minutes. Also, install a water-saving showerhead that uses 2 ½ gallons per minute.
  • Place a toilet bag in your toilet tank.
  • Use faucet aerators to cut consumption at your kitchen and bathroom sinks.
  • Use your dishwasher and laundry machines only for full loads.
  • Keep a pitcher of cold water in the refrigerator instead of running the water from the tap until it gets cold.

The Public will be advised when the Commission’s reservoir levels have increased. The Lynn Water & Sewer Commission appreciates your efforts in conserving water. For more information please contact the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission at 781-596-2400.
