From the MBTA: The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) today announced its service updates which go into effect on Sunday, June 14. Minor bus route changes are anticipated this summer with a majority of temporary service updates surrounding major events like the World Cup, Independence Day, and Sail Boston 2026.
Service information will be available soon at MBTA.com/ServiceChanges.
Riders are strongly encouraged to check schedules in advance and to use the MBTA’s Trip Planner as well as the MBTA Go app to view live information.
In anticipation of the eventful summer, the MBTA will be offering various Commuter Rail summer fare promotions including free summer Fridays, 50% discounts on monthly Commuter Rail passes, expanded weekend travel options for monthly pass holders, and $1 “Summer Companion” fare on weekends for guests of Commuter Rail monthly pass holders. On weekday match days (June 16, June 23, June 29, and July 9), extra bus and subway service will operate to support the anticipated influx of riders.
On all match days and June 14 (the day following a late evening match), shuttle bus service and 34E will replace the Franklin Line and Stoughton Line.
Extra Silver Line SL1 service will operate on all match days.
Independence Day (July 4):
On Friday, July 3, bus and subway service will operate Saturday service levels. Ferry will operate a weekday schedule.
On Saturday, July 4, bus will operate on Sunday service levels
On the morning of Saturday July 4, subway will operate Saturday service levels.
- For the remainder of the day, the MBTA will operate with added service.
On July 4, ferry will operate a normal Saturday schedule with no added service.

Sail Boston (July 11-15)
Supplemental bus routes will operate to connect riders to Sail Boston’s Meet Boston Parade of Sail viewing locations at Castle Island and Charlestown Navy Yard.
- Service will operate between JFK/UMass and Castle Island / South Boston every 5 minutes from 7am-7pm.
- Local Bus fares will be charged; riders can use cash, CharlieCards, contactless debit/credit card, phone, or watch with a mobile wallet.
Route 712/713 will operate a special schedule July 11-15.
- All service will operate to Point Shirley to connect riders to Sail Boston viewing locations.
- Buses may be diverted and bypass the Deer Island stop for part of the day due to public safety needs.
Silver Line SL2 service will be diverted due to anticipated roadway closures near Black Falcon Ave.
On Saturday July 11th, all ferry routes will be suspended until the evening to accommodate the Parade of Sail event. More details will be provided regarding alternate evening service as the event nears. All Ferry routes will operate on normal schedules from July 12th through July 15th but passengers should expect delays due to harbor congestion.

Bus Updates
Route 17: Sunday service will increase from operating between 9am-7pm to 6am-10pm. This means more riders will have access to early morning and late evening service on Sundays.
Route 34E: Evening trips that terminate at East Walpole will be extended to Walpole Center as they do during the rest of the day, allowing riders coming and going to Walpole Center to have more service all day.
The SL2/SLW: Frequency shifts during weekday peak periods and weekends. Frequency will increase at Design Center and decrease slightly in the Transitway Tunnel.

Ferry
As previously announced, beginning Monday, June 29, 2026, the new F10 Harbor Loop Ferry will begin operating year-round weekday service connecting Lovejoy Wharf (North Station), Central Wharf (Aquarium), Seaport (Commonwealth Pier), and Logan Airport. The detailed trip schedule for this route will be available on mbta.com in the coming weeks.
Hingham/Hull Ferry weekday service continues to operate year-round. Weekend service resumed on May 23, 2026, with increased service and capacity compared to past years. Saturdays and Sundays will see an increase of six additional trips.
Hingham/Rowes Wharf weekday service continues to operate year-round.
East Boston Ferry weekday and weekend service continues to operate.
Charlestown Ferry weekday and weekend service continues to operate year-round.
Lynn Ferry, Winthrop Ferry, and Quincy Ferry weekday service continues to operate. Weekend service resumed on May 23, 2026.
