Tania Freedman serving as Lynn’s interim Director of Elder Services

Tania Freedman, a human services professional for more than 25 years, has been named interim Director of Elder Services by Mayor Jared C. Nicholson. She replaces Christopher Gomez, who left to become Director of the Council on Aging in Beverly.

Freedman started working at Lynn’s Elder Services department in March 2022. Prior to that she worked for 20 years at Bridgewell as a residential program director, assistant director and human rights coordinator.

“It has been an exciting experience so far,” Freedman said of running the Senior Center on Friend Street. “Chris was a wonderful mentor. I want to continue Mayor (Jared) Nicholson’ for the new space, to offer services and programs to a diverse senior population.”

Nicholson, a frequent visitor to the Senior Center, said there has been a smooth transition from Gomez to Freedman.

“Tania is really picking up where Chris left off,” the mayor said. “Watching her engage with the seniors who attend the program, you can see how passionate she is about making their experience as positive and productive as possible.”

Freedman said the center is hosting an average of about 45-50 seniors per day, many of whom participate in enrichment programs such as Tech Goes Home, English as a Second Language, Spanish as a Second Language and other workshops. Lunch is served daily.

“They come for fellowship, food and fun” said Freedman, a Virginia native who moved to Massachusetts in 2001. “They feel loved when they are here.”
