Temporary Closures Along South Common Street and Market Street Through October 22

Nightly detours in place Sunday through Thursday from 9pm – 5am the following morning, now through Thursday, October 22

From MassDOT: The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing temporary overnight closures and detours along portions of South Common Street and Market Street. The nightly closures will be in place Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning, beginning Monday, September 21 through Thursday, October 22 with occasional Friday night work, as needed.  The closures are necessary to allow crews to safely and efficiently perform roadway milling, resurfacing operations and pavement marking installations. 

During the temporary closures, the following detours will be in place: 

• South Common Street will be detoured via Elm Street, Summer Street, Neptune Boulevard, and Pleasant Street. 
• Market Street eastbound will be detoured via Central Avenue, Washington Street, Union Street and Broad Street. 
• Market Street westbound will be detoured via Broad Street, Union Street, Central Square, Central Avenue, Washington Street, and Essex Street. 

This work is part of an $11.8 million Northern Strand Extension project in Lynn and Nahant. 

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.   

Drivers who are traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution. 

The schedule for this work is weather dependent and is subject to change without notice.
