Public Meeting | Regional Rail Modernization

From the MBTA:
The MBTA today reminds the public that two upcoming meetings are being hosted to learn about the agency’s plan for regional rail modernization.
The MBTA is developing a long-range plan to continue transforming the Commuter Rail systeminto a modern Regional Rail system. The plan is being developed with input from riders, stakeholders, and communities across the region. The plan will explain the MBTA’s long-term goals or Regional Rail service which will guide investments over the next decades. Ultimately, this plan will also elaborate on the agency’s decision-making criteria and data that will inform its future investments. This first phase of public engagement is designed to ensure that both our riders and the public at large understand what it will take, in terms of capital investments, to run at significantly higher frequencies.
“The MBTA had one of the best return-to-ridership rates across the nation since Covid thanks to work done to make our Commuter Rail something riders could depend on more often,” said Interim Secretary and MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng. “The needs and demands as demonstrated by the riders are a key driver as we take steps towards making Commuter Rail a Regional Rail that serves an even broader range of trips and communities forth more frequent bidirectional service. We are seeing more people to turn to trains and public transit beyond their workday commutes, and we plan to keep it that way.”
The MBTA welcomes community members and the public at large to meet with its representatives at either of the following virtual public meeting to learn more about the agency’s planning process and to share feedback. Comments can also be shared digitally on the MBTA’s website. Future phases of public engagement for the Regional Rail Modernization Planning efforts will take place in the Spring of 2027.
