New LPD Chief Kelly’s letter to the community

From the Lynn Police Department:

Dear Residents of Lynn:

As I begin serving as Chief of the Lynn Police Department, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share my commitment to the community that I have proudly called home my entire life.

Lynn is much more than the city I serve. It is the city where I was raised, where my family built its roots, where my wife has dedicated more than three decades to educating our children, and where my parents continue to live today. It is also where my two oldest sons have followed a path of public service and now wear the Lynn Police Department badge themselves.

For the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of serving this community as a police officer, supervisor, commander, and now Chief of Police. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work alongside residents, business owners, community leaders, clergy, educators, and countless families who care deeply about the future of our city. Those experiences have shaped my understanding of what makes Lynn special and what we can accomplish when we work together.

My commitment as Chief is simple. I will work every day to ensure the Lynn Police Department remains professional, accountable, transparent, and responsive to the needs of our community. Public safety is about more than responding to calls for service. It is about building trust, addressing concerns, creating meaningful connections, and ensuring that every resident feels heard and respected.

I believe some of our best ideas come from the people who live, work, and raise their families in this city. I encourage residents to share their concerns, perspectives, and suggestions. Listening to our community will remain an important part of how we move forward.

I also want the residents of Lynn to know that I am committed to maintaining a department that values professionalism, integrity, compassion, and accountability. Every interaction between a police officer and a member of the public matters. Those interactions shape confidence in our department and are essential to effective policing.

I recognize that trust is earned through actions, not words. My promise is that I will work every day to earn that trust and ensure the Lynn Police Department serves this community with honor and respect.

I am proud to be a lifelong resident of Lynn, honored to serve as your Chief of Police, and deeply grateful for the opportunity to give back to the city that has given so much to me and my family.
