Early last month, Councilor Coco Alinsug met with his newly appointed Precinct Captains and CAB representative for an outdoor meeting at Clark Park. While there, they noticed that the park’s mural had been vandalized. The Clark Park Baseball Field Mural was the product of a collaboration between Good2Go Public Art and the RAW Arts program in 2016. This mural has been a celebrated piece of local art in that community for the last 6 years. Needless to say, the team was upset but determined to find a way to have this beautiful mural restored as opposed to painted over. Councilor Alinsug and his team then photographed the vandalism and started making calls. CAB representative, Sandy Anshewitz, reached out to the Raw Arts and after several emails and phone calls was able to connect with the project’s original lead artist, Bruce Orr.

After discussing the logistics and reviewing the vandalism photos, Bruce Orr, Raw Arts Art Therapist and Lead Artist, agreed to help form a team to work on the restoration of the Clark Park Mural. To help keep the costs down, his amazing team of artists has agreed to restore this mural for $450, which would help cover a minimal artist stipend and all the materials needed.

On Sunday, February 5th, Councilor Alinsug and his team decided to seek help from the community to raise the funds necessary for the repair. The public’s response was immediate. In three hours, the team was able to raise their fundraising goal of $450 and then some. “I had to turn folks away because we have already raised so much.” stated Sandy Anshewitz, CAB Representative, “Lynners care about their parks and public spaces and this just proves it.”

In total, Councilor Alinsug’s team was able to crowdsource close to $700 from residents and concerned citizens from around the city. Councilor Alinsug says the money raised will be used to pay for the restoration, feed the artists and any remainder will be donated to RAW Arts as a thank you from the Clark Park community.
