The Open Door, a food resource center based in Gloucester which serves 11+ cities and towns, has a FREE mobile market twice monthly at the North Shore Community College Lynn Campus at 300 Broad Street. During the school year, The Open Door Mobile Market is available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. The last Mobile Market for this school year in Lynn is on Wednesday, May 28.
The purpose of the program is to connect students to free, nutritious food including fresh fruit and vegetables, dried goods, “Build-a-Meal” recipe kits, and more.
The program came about as a result of a survey conducted by NSCC in 2016 on Hunger and Homelessness which found that 70% of students at the school were struggling with food and/or housing insecurity. Students from Gloucester, Lynn, Saugus and Salem were the most vulnerable with between 62-93 percent of students from those towns needing nutrition support services.
