Lynn Public Schools is thrilled to announce the completion of its inaugural Middle School Hockey Program, aimed at providing students with an exciting opportunity to engage in competitive sports and foster a sense of teamwork and camaraderie.

With a commitment to offering diverse extracurricular activities that cater to the interests and talents of all students, the introduction of the Middle School Hockey Program represents a significant milestone for our district. This initiative aligns with our mission to promote holistic development and provide enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

The program catered to middle school students across the district, offering both boys and girls the chance to learn and excel in the sport of hockey under the guidance of experienced coaches.

“As a district, we wanted to implement more opportunities for our middle school students to stay active and expose them to new sports that they may not have had the chance to experience before. Hockey is one of those sports.”

Assistant Director of Physical Education and Health Coleen Peterson

One advocate for the implementation of this new athletic programming in our middle schools is school committee member Lorraine Gately. With her dedication and support, Gately has been instrumental in bringing this program to fruition. Also, Brian Boisson (Lynn Jets head coach), Brett Molea (Lynn Jets asst. Coach), Joe Driscoll (PE teacher/new middle school hockey coach), and athletic director Dick Newton have had significant roles in making this new offering happen seamlessly.

“By providing more athletic programming and exposing our middle school students to new sports, we hope we can help them discover new passions, improve physical fitness, and feel a sense of inclusivity within the LPS school community,” Peterson added.
