Lynn Public Schools Reopening Survey

From the Lynn Public Schools: Our goal is to ensure that all students have high-quality learning experiences and that families have everything they need. During this difficult time, we want to ensure that we are responsive to the most critical needs of our families and soliciting input for our plans going forward. It is very important to hear from LPS families about which supports should continue and those that should be improved or added.

This survey is an important opportunity to help us understand your experiences and needs during this time and will help with our planning. Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond. Note that you are welcome to skip any question you do not want to answer.

This survey will be available until June 22nd.

Lion’s Mane Jellyfish found at Nahant Beach

On June 12th the Nahant Beach Facebook page, run by MA DCR staff, posted that Lion’s Mane Jellyfish were found at Nahant Beach. Nahant Beach is currently posted under purple flag conditions for hazardous marine life, and is use “at-own-risk” at this time. There have been other reports of beaches in the area having these jellyfish as well, such as at Revere beach.

Most encounters with Lion’s Mane Jellyfish cause temporary pain and localized redness. In normal circumstances, and in healthy individuals, their stings are not known to be fatal.

Normally there is no real danger to humans, with the exception of people suffering from special allergies. But in cases when someone has been stung over large parts of their body, by not just the longest tentacles but the entire jellyfish, medical attention is recommended.

With the health and well-being of participants, volunteers, and sponsors in mind, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) announces a new virtual event schedule for its annual, statewide Against the Tide athletic fundraising events for 2020. MBCC will be hosting four virtual events on June 20th, August 15th, September 19th, and September 26th. The virtual event components include 1-mile recreational or competitive swims, ½-mile recreational swim, 5K or 10K runs, 3-mile walk, ½-mile stand up paddle board, or 2-mile kayak.  For participants who are looking to challenge themselves, there is an Aquathon option, consisting of a competitive 1-mile swim and the choice of 5K or 10K run.

“We are grateful to the many people who come out to support MBCC every year at Against the Tide events and we hope that providing participants with multiple virtual options will give everyone a chance to be a part of the Against the Tide events and to swim, walk, run, paddle, or kayak in support of cancer prevention,” explains Cheryl Osimo, MBCC’s Executive Director. “We’ve tried hard to balance the health and safety of our supporters, while trying to ensure important funds are raised to support MBCC’s programs.” Registration fees are $40 for an individual participant, and $100 for a family registration (up to 5 family members).

Virtual Event Highlights:

  • Participate on a course or safe body of water of your choosing.
  • Participants will have a three-day window leading up to the event day to complete their activity, (for example, June 18 – 20 for the June 20th Virtual Event).
  • All virtual participants will receive a Participant Fun Pack, including an event t-shirt, bib or swim cap, participant medal, and sponsor items, along with instructions on how to submit their finish time for those swim, run, and Aquathon participants who would like to have their finish times included on the event results page.
  • Exclusive access to training videos from two certified fitness instructors.
  • Opportunity to include a flag in memory/honor of a loved one on the online Mural of Honor.
  • Share your “event” photos with us to be included in the Against the Tide photo album on the MBCC website and Facebook page.
  • Prizes will be awarded top fundraisers.

To learn more about all of the registration options or to make a pledge, please visit the MBCC website at www.mbcc.org/swim or by calling 1-800-649-MBCC (6222).

Mayor Thomas M. McGee Updates Timeline For City Hall Reopening

Outdoor services begin this week; Full re-opening by Tuesday, July 7th

Mayor Thomas M. McGee disclosed further details regarding the phased reopening of Lynn City Hall today. As of Monday, June 8th, employees from Lynn City Hall, the Department of Public Works, the Lynn Public Library, and civilian employees of the Lynn Police and Fire departments began returning to on-site work with 50% of the employees working in city buildings and the other 50% working remotely, in light of the Commonwealth’s guidelines for building capacity. City Hall is scheduled to fully re-open to the public on Tuesday, July 7th, provided that the Commonwealth has successfully entered phase three of the Reopening Massachusetts plan.

“As we continue the phased re-opening of City Hall, it is important that we keep the safety of both our employees and our residents in mind, taking necessary precautionary measures to mitigate any additional surge of COVID-19.” said Mayor Thomas M. McGee. “We want to make sure we continue to provide access to essential services during these unprecedented times and starting this week Outdoor Services will be offered twice a week until we fully reopen City Hall.”

Beginning on Wednesday, June 17th, Lynn City Hall will offer Outdoor Services on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Johnson Street entrance of City Hall. Residents will be able to pay their Real Estate, Excise and Personal Property Tax bills as well as the Solid Waste Fee with the Collector’s office.

Residents can also schedule appointments for licenses and birth/marriage certificates, notary public services, and dropping off election papers with the City Clerk’s office. To make your appointment for outdoor service from the Clerk’s Office, please call (781) 586-6726 or e-mail jrowe@lynnma.gov. These outdoor appointments will be scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays between 9AM-12PM through July 1st.

Checks or money orders are the preferred methods of payment. Cash payments will be accepted only if the exact amount is provided.

Residents are encouraged to conduct any City Hall business via phone, email or at www.lynnma.gov. If you do need to conduct business with City Hall, please call 781-598-4000 during City Hall hours: Monday-Thursday 8:30AM-4:00PM and Fridays 8:30AM-12:30PM.

If you are not able to make city related payments online or through Outdoor Express Services, residents may mail them or drop them off in the blue City Hall lock box at the Johnson Street entrance of City Hall. Both the lock box and U.S. postal mail will be checked regularly throughout the week by the appropriate department. Please do not deposit cash in the lock box.

We encourage all residents to visit the City of Lynn Health Department “Coronavirus Resources” page at www.lynnma.gov/coronavirus which includes information and links on COVID-19 from the CDC, and to sign up for the Smart 911 updates at smart911.com/. Please follow www.lynnma.gov for more updates.

“Thanks to our efforts as a community, we have made great strides in mitigating COVID-19 through social distancing and staying at home in the critical early months. We need to continue to follow the recommendations provided by the CDC by social distancing, wearing face covering and the use of proper hygiene. Because of your patience, understanding, and cooperation, as we advance with the state’s reopening plan while keeping public health and wellness at the forefront. Thank you.” McGee said.
