From the Lynn Public Health Department: The Lynn Public Health Department distributes a monthly newsletter with health-related information for the City of Lynn.
SEPTEMBER’s monthly themeS WERE NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH & BABY SAFETY MONTH
October’s health themes are Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Bullying Prevention Month
National Recovery Month: 2025 Theme – Recovery is REAL (Restoring Every Aspect of Life)
Since 1989, National Recovery Month has been honored during the month of September to promote and support evidence-based treatment, increase awareness surrounding mental health and addiction recovery, and reduce stigma. This year’s theme, Recovery is REAL (Restoring Every Aspect of Life), reminds us that recovery involves all aspects of life – physical and mental health, home, community, and purpose.
Weekly Themes:
- Week 1 – Health: focuses on aspects of well-being and its role in recovery and how it includes whole health
- Week 2 – Home: focuses on how having a safe and stable living environment and how it can help aid recovery from mental health and substance use challenges
- Week 3 – Community: focuses on building social networks and how having a sense of belonging and community can help support recovery
- Week 4 – Purpose: focuses on the benefits of how having a sense of purpose can lead to positive changes and foster resilience
Baby Safety Month
Started as a campaign in 1983 called “Expectant Mother’s Day”, that extended to a week-long celebration in 1986, and eventually celebrated all throughout September in 1991, becoming “Baby Safety Awareness Month”. The purpose of Baby Safety Month is to help educate parents and caregivers about baby safety and to choosing the safest products available.
Baby Safety Topics:
- Safe Sleep: back sleep position is the safest sleep position for all babies
- Car Safety: be sure to install car seat correctly for every ride and never leave a baby alone in a car
- Home Safety: cover unused electrical outlets, anchor heavy furniture, install safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs, and store all cleaning products and medicines out of reach
- Product Safety: register new baby products to receive safety alerts, choose non-toxic items, and use natural or eco-friendly cleaning solutions
- Choking Prevention: keep small items, bags, and cords out of reach and cut foods into small, manageable pieces
- Emergency Preparedness: learn infant first aid and CPR and keep emergency contact numbers readily available
