Mayor honors veterans at Life Care Center of the North Shore
On Nov. 11, Mayor Jared Nicholson joined Life Care Center of the North Shore, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, for a ceremony honoring resident veterans.
The celebration was held in the facility’s central courtyard. Nicholson gave a short speech thanking veterans for their service before awarding citations to six veteran residents. After presenting the citations, he posed for photos with residents, associates and residents’ family and friends.
Ward Three Councilor Constantino “Coco” Alinsug and Ward Three member Lennin Pena also attended the event and helped Nicholson award the citations.
Six of the facility’s 14 veteran residents were able to attend the ceremony. Everyone in attendance was moved by the occasion.
“Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been very difficult for us as a facility to have any normalcy,” said Kayleigh Valente, business developer. “Being able to host a Veterans Day ceremony and inviting the mayor and other city officials meant a lot to our staff and residents. We have faced many challenges, loss and grievances, and being able to do this gave us something positive to look forward to. Being a veteran is honorable, and being recognized by our own city mayor and ward councilor is extremely important.”
Located at 111 Birch St., Life Care Center of the North Shore is one of 15 skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Massachusetts managed by Life Care Centers of America.
