New trash collection company starts July 1

Starting July 1, Capitol Waste Services will be responsible for residential trash and recycling collection in the city.

The city signed a 5-year contract with Capitol Waste Services that will save as much as $3 million over the life of the deal. Waste Management has been collecting Lynn’s trash for more than 25 years.

There will be no change in the weekly trash collection and biweekly recycling pick-up. Residents will continue to use their existing barrels, which the city purchased from Waste Management.

“This contract provides the city with an established local vendor while delivering significant savings. We are confident Capitol will provide a high level of service to our residents.”

Mayor Jared C. Nicholson

Residents who need a bulky item picked up can contact Capitol Waste (1-855-533-3400), with the cost per item reduced to $20 from the current charge of $26. To have a barrel repaired or to lease an additional barrel, residents can contact the DPW (781-586-8015). Purple overflow bags will still be available for purchase. To report an issue to the DPW, residents can also use the SeeClickFix app.

Capitol Waste was founded in 2002 by Joseph Ricupero and Michael Merullo. The East Boston-based company has a fleet of more than 90 vehicles and services several municipalities in the area including Revere, Winthrop, Everett and Boston.

Residents will soon be receiving in the mail the 2024-25 calendar that includes extensive information on waste disposal and recycling.

June 27th update: Below is the trash & recycling calendar for 2024-25.
