Lynn Police Department Statement Regarding Former Officer

From the Lynn Police Department: The Lynn Police Department is aware of the indictments announced by the Essex County District Attorney’s Office involving former Lynn Police Officer Christopher Gomez.

This matter was initially identified and investigated internally by the Lynn Police Department. Upon review of the circumstances surrounding the May 16, 2026 incident, the Department initiated an internal investigation and subsequently referred the matter to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office for further review. The Lynn Police Department cooperated fully with the District Attorney’s Office throughout its investigation.

In addition, this was referred to the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) with the recommendation that Gomez be terminated as a police officer and decertified. Gomez resigned from the Lynn Police Department prior to him being terminated.

As this matter is now the subject of an ongoing criminal proceeding, the Department will not comment further on the specific facts or evidence related to the case. The Lynn Police Department remains committed to accountability, transparency, and maintaining the trust of the community we serve.

The indictments are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
