In coordination with the Mayor’s office and the City Council, the City launched the Youth and Adolescence Taskforce with representatives from youth-serving organizations and young people. The City is now currently seeking feedback from Lynn youth and members to join the Taskforce.
This taskforce was created “to ensure young people have a seat at the table and are provided pathways to successfully transition into adulthood” in the City of Lynn, due to the fact that many policies directly impact youth and young adults. Founded on the believe that there are gaps in programming for those ages 16-25, the hope is to engage youth to create better policies, stronger communities, and future leaders while transitioning into adulthood successfully
Mission statement
This task force shall ensure that all youth and young adults regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, ability, or economic status, have equal opportunity to access education, employment, human service, recreational opportunities, and all city services.
The task force will encourage effective and efficient institutional and organizational response to the needs of youth and young adults city-wide and foster an environment in which the adolescents of Lynn are allowed to participate as responsible and contributing residents of the city.
The core purpose of the is to uphold policies, rights, and responsibilities that support the wellbeing of youth in Lynn. There will be a focus on equity, access, leadership, prevention, & youth‑centered policy. This is both a planning body and an action‑oriented task force with plans for community engagement, youth‑inclusive planning, needs assessment & prioritization, program coordination, policy development, & youth leadership development.
The end goal of the Taskfroce is to bring about stronger youth outcomes, more responsive city systems, youth prepared for civic leadership, & policies informed by real experiences.
Currently, there are two ways for the community to get involved with this new taskforce.
The first is an on-going survey crafted specifically for young individuals aged 13-25, aiming to gain valuable insights into their needs and the factors crucial for their success within our community. Their input will help shape initiatives and support systems that better cater to the unique challenges and goals of young adults.
Another way you can get involved is to join the taskforce. Meeting mostly virtually monthly, there will be leadership opportunities available to lead initiatives and committees that may form. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Current members of the Taskforce are Councilor at Large Nicole McClain, Faustina Cuevas from the Mayor’s Office, Danissa Lopez, Jesse Lobato, Rouaa Ahmad, Stacy Bryant-Brown, Merlinda Marseille, Victoria “Tori” Crossley, Brenda Reed-Womack, & Tommy Tran.
