From the Lynn Police Department: The Lynn Police Department, working in coordination with surrounding law enforcement agencies, successfully recovered a six-year-old child who was inside a stolen motor vehicle, just 39 minutes after the incident was initially reported. The incident highlights the critical role of modern investigative technology, rapid information sharing, and interagency cooperation in protecting the community.
At approximately 4:36 p.m., Lynn Police received a report of a stolen motor vehicle from the area of 309 Boston Street. At the time of the theft, a six-year-old child was seated in the back of the vehicle. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, multiple Lynn Police officers from both the Day and Night Divisions immediately responded and began coordinating e orts to locate the vehicle and safely recover the child. Once the vehicle was identified, officers utilized the Department’s FLOCK Safety Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system, which provided critical information indicating that the stolen vehicle had traveled out of Lynn and in the direction of Saugus. This information allowed officers to quickly identify the vehicle’s direction of travel and communicate that information to surrounding police departments and the Massachusetts State Police.
Simultaneously, investigators pursued additional resources, including attempting to locate a cellular phone inside the vehicle and initiating the process for an AMBER Alert. At approximately 5:15 p.m., just 39 minutes after the initial report, the Lynn Police Department was notified that o icers from the Everett Police Department had located and stopped the stolen vehicle. The driver was taken into custody, and the six-year-old child was safely recovered. Emergency medical personnel subsequently transported the child to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for evaluation. The child’s parent was notified and escorted to the hospital by a Lynn Police o icer to be reunited with their child. The suspect was later transported to the Lynn Police Department for booking and further processing.
The rapid resolution of this incident demonstrates how technology, proactive police work, and strong interagency partnerships can make a meaningful difference when every minute counts.
“From the moment this call came in, our priority was finding this child and bringing them home safely. Within approximately 39 minutes, the child was recovered safely.
