From the MBTA: The MBTA are excited to announce that the Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project’s design is now available, and the online survey is now open for responses! Please click the link below to provide your comments online. It will remain open through Friday, May 29.
The Survey is available in English, Spanish, Khmer, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.
The Lynnway is a major roadway, part of Route 1A, and is owned and operated by DCR. The project area extends north from the General Edwards Bridge at the Revere city line to just north of Market Street and serves as a significant north-south connection to and within the city. For decades, the Lynnway’s design has prioritized the movement of motor vehicles, resulting in a difficult and intimidating area for pedestrians, cyclists, and bus riders to navigate, and serving as a barrier to the waterfront.
The Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project will include safety and reliability improvements for all modes of transportation – from those who drive, walk, and bike to those who take public transportation. As part of this project, there will also be improved access both across and along the Lynnway, making it safer for people to access places like the new Harbor Park.
The Lynnway Multimodal Corridor Project builds upon several plans from the MBTA, City of Lynn, and Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Safe, multimodal transportation improvements to the Lynnway are essential to supporting the City’s vision for the area to transform it as a gateway to the Lynn community.
Lynnway Draft Concept Design
The Lynnway Draft Concept Design is available to view below and on the project website. The Draft Concept Design includes:
- Improvements to safety, access, and connections
- Over 600 feet of new sidewalk
- Up to 0.6 miles of new Shared Use Path
- Enhanced pedestrian crosswalks
- Up to 34 new or rebuilt ADA-compliant wheelchair ramps
- Safer driving conditions and traffic calming at intersections
- Transit improvements
- Approximately 2.6 total lane miles of bus lanes
- Faster, more frequent bus service and enhanced bus shelters
- More frequent and reliable connections to the MBTA Blue Line, Lynn Ferry Terminal, Commuter Rail, and downtown Lynn
- Traffic flow improvements
- Upgraded signal infrastructure
- Maintenance of two-thru lanes in both directions
- Dedicated spaces for each mode of transportation to decrease conflicts
- Improvements to trees and the public realm
- Up to 250 new curbside trees and additional greenery
